The dative case is used to show the indirect object of a verb, typically the recipient of an action.

Sentences

She gave him a book.

He sent her a letter.

German: Ich gebe dir das Buch. (I give you the book.)

Spanish: Le di el regalo a mi hermana. (I gave the gift to my sister.)

Russian: Я дал ей цветы. (I gave her flowers.)
